PolychemÒ XS-790 - Customer Observations

Date: November 11, 1997

Subject: PolychemÒ XS-790

Listed below are my observations and opinions of the PolychemÒ XS-790 solution as a color change purge solution for purging out Akzo Nobel's Polyster baking enamel.

As you are aware, since October 1994, Lozier started using the 790 xs to flush their pumps, bells, disks, guns, and paint lines in Lozier's automated and manual purge applications.  The results have been successful and did not vary in any of Lozier's electrostatic equipment (i.e. Binks, Ransburg, Grayco guns etc.).  The key, however, to success and/or failure of using 790 xs, is to follow the proper procedures.  This includes proper temperature ranges (135 degrees F - 160 degrees F) and concentration strengths (15 to 25%)

Although the Poly paint can accept a small amount of 790 xs into the unused paint drum, shoud this condition exist, the 790 xs (which floats on the top of the paint) and 4-6 inches of paint below that region should not be used withou 1st being sent to the inter-mix room and sheared with the cowls, to remove the aqueous material from the paint (through evaporation).  It is important to note that excessive introduction of solvents, which were used in the past, also create inconsistencies many of which went undetected due mainly to the solvents ability to emulsify into the paint versus the 790 xs which floats.

Further observations revealed that the electrostatic equipment performs quite well with the 790 xs and the clear tubing which was once grayish in color has been restored to a transparent condition thus suggesting better clean out results and subsequently better efficiency.

In conclusion, I believe the 790 xs which as I understand has zero VOC and economical pricing, is a viable product provided that all proper procedures are followed.
